Dora The Explorer

Dora The Explorer

December 2009

This is a 4 layered cake with the bottom 2 layers as chocolate cake and the top 2 layers as vanilla. It is meant to represent the outdoor adventures of Dora the Explorer.

The Dora figurine candle and pipe cleaner palm tree were added later.

A rushing waterfull- I sprinkled sugar sprinkles to make it look like crashing water.

Palm Trees & pink flowers decorated the sides

AKA Birthday

AKA 21st Birthday

This was made for my friend Zimmy who was turning 21 and is also an AKA Sorority Sister.

The pink and green are the sorority's colors and I attempted to make it look like the cake had pearls draped across it's edges.

Oh Christmas Tree!

Oh Christmas Tree! Oh Christmas Tree!

Double layer yellow sheet cake, hand carved into Christmas tree shape with a pretzel rod tree trunk.

I was a little preswsed for time in finishing this one, so there was a lack of creativity when it came to the ornaments and decoration on the tree.

"23"

23 - Birthday Princess
December 2009

Each number is a double layer sheet cake (totalling to 4 cakes) hand carved into each number...leaving a lot of scraps!! :-)

Getting into the grooves of this cake was a challenge while trying to decorate the sides.

Kristy Kake

Chocolate Sheet Cake with 3-D Gift

The gift made the weight of the cake a little uneven and had to be supported with toothpicks, but the overall look was pretty.

Single later sheet cake with the gift being two layers thick

GEAUX TIGERS!

LSU
OCTOBER 2009
Three Layered Red Velvet cake with Cream Cheese Frosting for an LSU fan's Birthday

I used the "Frosting Pens" that they sell in local grocery stores to draw an outline because I was super nervous about having to draw this tiger....

The Finished Tiger....took a lot of effort!

The sides were looking kind of plain so I added lil "LSU"s all around

Last of the Kitty Kakes as of September 2009

A very Non-Traditional wedding cake made to match the Bride's Non-Traditional dress
September 2009

Topped off with sugar sprinkles...yum!

The wedding cake in pieces....

My first & only (so far) traditional wedding cake. Looking back, I would've liked to have made the bottom layer, a double layer as well...

Weird....More Kake!

Marvin the Martian, Done for a friend's Sister. I struggled with this because I'm not that familiar with the character and I was constantly having to reference other images.

The Finished Product

When I asked my friend Terrence what he wanted for his birthday cake, he replied, "Titties, Tupac, Thug Life, and all my homies"! (he was joking of course but I couldn't resist) So I gave it to him all in one...The stars to the right represent each of his homies, while the rest is pretty self explanatory.

For my friend Chris...who loves Heineken and will NEVER say "No" to a drink...

Kake Progression

Trials, Errors, & Masterpieces!

I was getting tired of the 3-layered cake so I thought I'd get fancy for my friend Andrea's birthday with a sheet cake
July 2008

This was a last minute project...my roommate made a cookie cake for our friend whose birthday was right around Christmas time, so at the last minute I offered to decorate it for her
December 2008

This is definitely the UGLIEST Kake creation I have ever done...I learned my lesson about drinking too much wine and trying to decorate a cake while mad...
November 2008

This is my favorite cake of all time....a 7-layered sculpted Jack-o-lantern cake
October 2008

This was a cake I did for my boyfriend at the time when he got accepted to the Art Institute of Atlanta for graphic design

Introducing Kitty Kakes

So I'm brand new to the whole concept of blogging...but I wanted another forum to share my cake decorating endeavors. I started gettin' fancy with cakes and icing in May of 2008 when I wanted to make an extra special cake for my mother. She has made me great birthday cakes every year since I was born and I wanted to return the favor. After her birthday it was one of my closest friends birthday so I thought I'd try again....the rest is history. Any opportunity I got to get creative with cakes, I took and this is what it has turned into: A hobby/ new business that takes hours and hours and hours of my time...but I love the results and the reactions of my friends and family who get to enjoy the cake creations. Pictured are the first three cakes I ever did. From the bottom up is my mother's b-day cake, then my roommates birthday cake, then two of my close friends who have a birthday within days of eachother. As you can see I was set on the three layered style...

First attempt at a flower...

Looking a lil rough... the frosting pretty much slid down the sides of the cake
